What is Voki Classroom?

Watch this short  clip to find out!

What is unique about Middle Years Learners?

The changes that occur during the middle years result in this group of students facing significantly different challenges than younger children or older adolescents (Queensland Department of Education, Training and Employment [Qld DETE] , 2003).

  • Middle Years learners make the least academic progress (Qld DETE, 2003)
  • They have a greater risk of disengagement from learning (Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs, 2008).
  • During the middle years the gap between low and high achievers increases (Qld DETE, 2003).
  • Inadequate learning in the middle years can lead to serious long term learning consequences (Cox & Kennedy, 2010).

Middle years students are at the forefront of technologial advances such as social media and gaming (Henderson & Honan, 2008).

Their extensive use of digital technology, along with their strong desire for connectedness (Lounsbury, 2000), means that young adolescence provides an optimal opportunity to enrich students' learning using ICTs.
