"Little Bird Tales works well because it captures the imagination, creativity, and voice of the child in a free and easy to use platform"

(Teaching History Organisation, 2012, para 8).

How does Little Birds Tales enrich English teaching and learning for year 3 students?

During a year 3 lesson based on Australian Poetry, Little Bird Tales would be an extremely effective tool in assisting students to decode complex text and descriptions. It would assist students in understanding the text through the support of relevant illustrations. Further, hearing the poem read aloud to them, would enable correct pronunciation of difficult words.

This poem has been written from the perspective of a river and it describes what it sees at different locations. As this poem has been written from the perspective of a non living object, providing narration and use of illustrations would significantly aid students in understanding this abstract approach to poetry.
